“In My Experience He Was Fun – Always Funny.”
David Bowie was an incredible, once in a lifetime talent – we all know this and as his friend Annie Lennox said during her tribute to the late legend at last year’s BRIT Awards, his is a legacy that will be loved and revered “for as long as the earth still spins”. There’s another side to Bowie, however, that those who knew him well remember fondly: his sense of humor and the love he had for his daughter, Lexi.
Insanely funny with a remarkably quick wit capable of collapsing those around him into fits of laughter, David loved to laugh as much as he loved to create and in the hours following news of his death his friend Conan O’Brien took to the airwaves to celebrate that million dollar smile and infectious laugh by remembering some of his favorite interviews with Bowie; by the end, we weren’t sure whether to laugh or cry and by the look on Conan’s face, he was facing the same dilemma.
Whether it was appearing on Conan’s show in the nineties and laughing about fake personas and name changes from early in his career to begrudgingly singing for Conan and the fiercely funny, sweet way he spoke of baby Lexi shortly after her birth, there’s nothing like seeing David Bowie enjoying life and truth be told that’s how we’d like to remember the man who fell to earth. Enjoy!
