“Come Gather ‘Round People Wherever You Roam…”

Late night host Jimmy Fallon dusted off his tried and true Bob Dylan impression this week on The Tonight Show, donning a curly wig, harmonica, and a pair of snazzy sunglasses as he crooned through Dylan’s “The Times They Are A-Changin'”.

This wasn’t just any old cover of a Dylan classic, though; while he’s not known for his political humor and does his level best to stay away from it in the interest of his shows being lively and uplifting, this cover saw Fallon break his own rule to wade into the fray, updating the lyrics to reflect the current turmoil and social climate in America and across the world.

Using his best Dylan voice, Fallon spins the 1965 release into a critical but deeply hopeful call to action with lyrics like “We’ll curse you with four-letter words ‘love’ and ‘hope’,” much to the audience’s delight. Love it or hate it, you’ve got to admit that it’s pretty clever. Check it out in the video below and remember: it’s all in good fun!
